Top Marks for TRL

15 January 2007

Members of REMA, the trade association for manufacturers of retroreflective traffic safety products, had much to reflect on during the first visit by the association to the TRL headquarters in Crowthorne, Berkshire. “The extremely sophisticated testing and simulation capability at this state-of-the-art facility is impressive,” commented Mike Mason MIHT, REMA chairman. “This world-renowned resource is a major contributor to Britain’s excellent road safety record; which is integral to the remit of our member companies.”

The occasion for the visit was the REMA annual general meeting (AGM), following which Mike Mason presented a cheque for £500 to Jools Townsend, head of education at Brake, the road safety charity. This is the second year that Brake was chosen via members’ ballot to receive the association’s annual charity donation.

“As the voice for manufacturers of retroreflective traffic safety products that are used mainly on the highway we applaud Brake’s high profile campaigning across all sectors for safety on our roads and are delighted to support their effort,” commented Mike Mason.

After the AGM, members were joined for lunch by invited guests from the Department for Transport, Highways Agency, Association for Road Traffic Safety and Management, Road Safety Markings Association, Traffic Management Contractors Association, BSI, TRL and Brake. A guided tour of the extensive TRL test facilities followed.
