New Code Delivers Marketplace Reassurance |
REMA, the Retroreflective Equipment Manufacturers Association, has launched a code of practice; a timely initiative following the recent instances of non-compliant products being put onto the UK market. The new rigorous code not only encompasses registration, certification and accreditation to an appropriate ISO Quality Standard, but also the need for REMA members to sustain audited quality programmes, compliance and complaints procedures. Products supplied by members provide visual information, day and night, for both permanent and temporary personal safety and traffic needs. We believe this new code is a significant step in providing assurances to our marketplace that when they choose products manufactured by REMA companies, they have an inbuilt guarantee of quality and performance, commented Mike Mason, chairman of REMA. This is important in our increasingly litigious world as it will help to safeguard organisations by ensuring they buy compliant products,. As a consequence, REMA hopes that purchasers will be encouraged to source relevant products from only REMA member companies. Non-compliance with appropriate Standards is a recurring issue in this sector. Though marked as complying with Standards, a number of products have not performed adequately when tested and are therefore illegal. All members are required to follow the REMA constitution and code of practice, ensuring that the products they supply conform to the latest Standards, regulations and legislation. The new code of practice also requests that members develop and improve end user awareness of the latest legislation, applicable Standards and industry best practice. The REMA constitution, the REMA code of practice and a full list of REMA members and products supplied are published on www.rema.org.uk - ends - |
Editors Note: REMA, founded over 25 years ago, is the trade association and co-ordinated voice for the manufacturers of a wide range of retroreflective traffic safety products that are used mainly on the highways but also, for example, at airports and industrial sites.
